INSTRUCTIONS
With smaller needles and A, cast on 72 (80-88).
1strow: (RS). *K1. P1.Rep from* to end of row.
2nd row: *P1. K1. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows (K1. P1) ribbing oncemore. Change to larger needles and proceed in stocking st until work from beg measures 3 (3½-3¾)” [7.5 (9-9.5) cm], ending on a purl row.
Shape top: 1st row: (RS). *K7 (8-9). K2tog. Rep from * to end of row. 64 (72- 80) sts.
2nd and alt rows: Purl.
3rd row: *K6 (7-8). K2tog. Rep from * to end of row. 56 (64-72) sts.
5th row: *K5 (6-7). K2tog. Rep from * to end of row. 48 (56-64) sts.
7th row: *K4 (5-6). K2tog. Rep from * to end of row. 40 (48-56) sts.
9th row: *K3 (4-5). K2tog. Rep from * to end of row. 32 (40-48) sts.
11th row: *K2 (3-4). K2tog. Rep from * to end of row. 24 (32-40) sts.
13th row: *K1 (2-3). K2tog. Rep from * to end of row. 16 (24-32) sts.

Sizes 12 and 18/24 mos only: 14th row: Purl.
15th row: *K(1-2). K2tog. Rep from * to end of row. (16-24) sts. Size 18/24 mos only: 16th row: Purl.
17th row: *K1. K2tog. Rep from * to end of row. 16 sts.
All sizes: Next row: Purl.
Next row: *K2tog. Rep from * to end of row. 8 sts. Break yarn, leaving a long end.
Thread end through rem sts and draw up tightly. Fasten securely. Using end, sew center back seam.

Finishing
Lay Hat flat, mark center of Hat. Using C and duplicate stitch, embroider Heart Nose using Chart as guide. Chart is
shown on page 2. Embroider whiskers with C using Straight stitch.

Pompoms: (Make 2).
Wind B around 3 fingers 80 times. Remove from fingers and tie tightly in center. Cut through each side of loops.
Trim to a smooth round shape. Sew pompoms to either side of Hat at top as shown in picture.
